Once upon a time, there was a little girl who loved to collect anything and everything, from buttons and beads to shells from the beach. Everywhere she went, trinkets and treasures would catch her eye, finding their way into her little pockets and secret hiding places.
That little girl grew up into a big girl who still loved to collect and cherish fragments of the past. Like a Magpie, she was attracted to all that glitters and glistens. She began to make things from her collections. Things that could be cherished by other people, who also yearned to be lost in a world of fairy tales and stars and magical places. Today, that girl, Suzanne, is based in the magical Campsie Fells, North of Glasgow, Scotland and lives in an old cottage with a Gypsy wagon in her garden where is often found working on her creations. Magpie Maison was formed in 2012 and is constantly developing. Prior to this, Suzanne graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2006 with BA (Hons) in Design and more recently, in 2020, Suzanne achieved a Master of Letters in Dress & Textile Histories from the University of Glasgow. Creating, researching, making and selling are the main strands of her business and inspiration is found in many places. From secret walled gardens to theatre visits, flea markets to flower stands, she very much enjoys collecting and keeping images of these places to work from. Haberdashery, tiny trinkets, antiques and artefacts are sought out and brought home. In another life, she would have been an archaeologist or historian, discovering and preserving remnants of the past. In this one though, she is happy to create little wonders that may become future heirlooms or the treasured possessions of like minded souls. |
